Sekunjalo Ma Africa Arts was formed in 2012 at Magwegwe Youth Centre in Bulawayo. What began as a small group of young artists has grown into a self-sustaining ensemble dedicated to preserving Zimbabwe’s cultural heritage. The group performs traditional dance styles such as Isitshikitsha, Gumboot, Iwosana, and Amabhiza, alongside accapella, jazz, contemporary, gospel, and traditional music. On stage, they bring to life their theatre production Emoyeni Ngocici. Guided by Ubuntu, culture promotion, empowerment, and professionalism, the ensemble exists to educate communities and create opportunities for young people. A director, an administrator, and a marketing manager oversee its work.

Over the years, Sekunjalo Ma Africa Arts has made a tangible impact. The ensemble runs a Schools Cultural Rehabilitation Program that brings culture lessons directly to local schools. They have partnered with Grace to Heal for peace advocacy, performed at the ZHETA conference on child malnutrition, and participated in the NYDT Peace Festival. In 2023, they won the national Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Festival and took part in the DSTV Shaka Ilembe series activation roadshows. Today, they continue to host educational workshops, create informal employment for young people, and offer platforms for empowerment dialogues through art at local, regional, and international events.
